Dresden (dpa / sn) - The first corona vaccine arrived in Saxony on Saturday.

A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Social Affairs said the first 9,750 doses of vaccine for Saxony arrived later in the morning under police protection in the central warehouse.

They were transported from Belgium via Marburg.

The warehouse - the location is not mentioned for security reasons - is said to meet the requirements for the storage of pharmaceuticals.

The vaccine is in vials of five doses.

The total of 1950 bottles are packed in two special thermal containers in which they are cooled to minus 70 degrees.

The vaccination doses are to be distributed on Saturday, well-cooled with dry ice - to the university clinics in Dresden and Leipzig as well as to the Chemnitz clinic, among others.

The first vaccinations against the corona virus in nursing homes and clinics should then begin on Sunday in the Free State.

According to the ministry, a further delivery of a good 24,000 cans is expected on Monday, and another 34,000 cans are to be added on December 30th.

The vaccine should also be distributed in other federal states on Saturday and delivered to 27 locations.
