Dresden (dpa / sn) - During the corona pandemic, those willing to marry sometimes hesitate to go to the registry office.

Because of the pandemic, there are rebookings and cancellations, said a spokeswoman for the city of Dresden in a survey by the news agency dpa in the major Saxon cities and wedding organizers.

This usually happens at short notice, so that the appointments can usually not be reassigned and the number of marriages is lower than the originally planned appointments.

However, the registry office had basically "no changed booking behavior" observed by the couples, it said.

Wedding organizers see those willing to marry unsettled.

Of course, marriages would also be planned and closed in times of Corona, according to the Chemnitz city administration.

"Experience shows that in January there are very few marriages," said a spokesman.

There are no registrations until January 10th, four marriages are planned for January 12th.

Whether this will actually take place, however, could only be said at the beginning of the month.

In December, all the couples appeared as planned in the town hall or in the moated castle Klaffenbach, where the couples in Chemnitz said yes.

According to the information, around 840 marriages were concluded in the city in 2020.

In the previous year there were almost as many with 837 weddings.

According to the spokesman, marriages are only concluded in a narrow circle, with parents and possibly common children or with an interpreter.

The hygiene rules such as the minimum distance must be observed and mouth and nose protection must be worn.

When it comes to inquiries about the New Year, Fridays and Saturdays are particularly popular among those willing to marry in Leipzig.

Among them there are also some couples who have postponed their wedding from 2020 to 2021, said a city spokesman.

In 2020 around 1770 bridal couples were married.

That is more than 360 fewer than in the previous year.

There were a good 270 rejections.

73 cancellations were made in May alone, most of them in one month of 2020.

"Our industry has seldom been confronted with so much uncertainty among customers," said wedding planner Anikó Arzner from Aniko-Hochzeiten in Dresden.

The back and forth of inquiries, bookings, postponements and cancellations has remained about the same since the beginning of the corona pandemic.

«We have had to postpone some weddings from 2020 to 2021.

Not all locations were able to offer us a new date in exactly the same period, so that some spring weddings turned into summer weddings the following year. "

When the pandemic calmed down during the summer months, the bride and groom's confidence returned.

"The amount of inquiries was comparable to that of previous years," said Arzner.

Unfortunately, this confidence did not last long.

"We already had to postpone two weddings from 2021 to 2022."

The uncertainty as to which framework may be celebrated is simply too great.

In one case, a party with more than 100 people was planned.

In the other, the fear of travel restrictions for guests from abroad caused the shift.

The short-term and unplanned political decisions are a psychological burden for the couple, said Arzner.

These suffered from constant stress.

"We can feel that very clearly."

Some of them, who would have postponed their wedding in spring or summer 2020, did not want to take the risk again.

There are relationships that cannot withstand this strain, so that weddings have been completely canceled.

Other couples are getting closer, especially in this time of crisis.

"We hope for many wedding celebrations in 2021 and expect an impact in 2022," said the wedding planner.

"At the moment, inquiries to our agency are only coming in very cautiously," said Franziska Beyer from the Leipzig agency Mit Dir und Mir.

“I think the current situation is spoiling many newly engaged couples with the desire to get married.

First you wait to see what comes and how everything develops. "

However, it is also conceivable that many future brides have found an engagement ring under the Christmas tree and that, as every year, the inquiries then increased again in January.

There are no cancellations for the spring weddings.

"There the couples and we are still relaxed."
