The vaccination campaign begins Sunday in France, in a hospital in Seine-Saint-Denis and in an Ehpad in Dijon, before being extended to the rest of the territory.

All over France, establishments welcoming the elderly are standing by.

The first doses of the vaccine designed by the Pfizer and BioNTech laboratories arrive in France on Saturday.

For now, it is only "a few dozen" patients, according to Olivier Véran, who will receive their injection on Sunday, in a hospital in Sevran and an Ehpad in Dijon.

Vaccination must then be extended to all of France from the start of the year.

Very tried by the health crisis, French nursing homes are impatiently awaiting the campaign.

Impatient residents

In a Parisian establishment, Robert took advantage of his Christmas visit to discuss the subject with his mother, an 88-year-old resident.

"She is impatiently awaiting the vaccine. Physically, the confinement has made her lose a lot of autonomy. For a person like her who still has a lot of abilities, it is vital to be able to come out," he said at the microphone of Europe 1.

The establishment says it is ready to vaccinate its residents.

Perhaps it will even be necessary to recruit more caregivers, because here almost all residents wish to benefit from it.

For residents unable to decide, it will be up to the legal representative to decide.

Juliette will therefore decide for her mother.

"She has Alzheimer's disease so she is better able to give consent. But her family is giving it. If she had been aware, I think she would have given it too."

The management of the nursing home hopes to administer the first doses in ten days.
