Hamburg (dpa) - The amount of cocaine seized in the German seaports will again reach the record level of the previous year in 2020.

This said a spokesman for the Hamburg customs investigation office of the German press agency.

The authority is responsible for all German container ports on the North and Baltic Seas.

In 2019, according to a report by the Federal Criminal Police Office, the authorities seized at least ten tons of the drug.

After a record find of 4.5 tons of cocaine in July 2019, customs officers discovered larger deliveries in 2020.

In March, for example, they found 1.8 tons of drugs in a container with cat litter from Peru.

According to the information, the successes of the customs do not seem to affect Germany's supply of cocaine.

"No matter what we seize, nothing changes in the price level," said the spokesman for the customs investigation office, Frank Nielsen.

At the same time, he referred to the much larger quantities that are being seized in Antwerp and Rotterdam.

According to the Federal Criminal Police Office, it was more than 100 tons in both ports in 2019.
