Munich (dpa / lby) - Due to the strict pandemic protection measures, no big New Year's Eve parties, no meetings and no fireworks at midnight are allowed on public property this year.

Also on the last day of 2020 from 9 p.m. there is a tightened exit restriction.

But some Bavarian cities do not go far enough, they also want to prohibit firecrackers on private property, which is otherwise permitted.

An overview of the restrictions and measures in some major cities:

MUNICH: The state capital points out that according to the Corona regulation, the burning of fireworks is “not a valid reason” to leave your own apartment.

If you live in Munich within the Mittlerer Ring, you also have to do without loud firecrackers.

Classic firecrackers without lighting effects should not be ignited in this area in the center of the metropolis, even on private properties, explains a spokesman for the city.

The Munich police headquarters want to deploy at least 300 additional officers in the city and district of Munich to control the strict regulations around the turn of the year.

NUREMBERG: In Nuremberg there shouldn't be any bang at all on New Year's Eve.

There will be a ban on fireworks in the entire city, including private areas, said a spokesman.

Then citizens are not allowed to ignite pyrotechnics in their garden or on the balcony.

The city justifies this on the one hand with the high number of corona infections and the associated critical situation in the clinics, on the other hand with the high risk of injury and fire from the fireworks.

Last year on New Year's Eve there were an additional 186 emergency missions and 90 more missions for the fire department within twelve hours compared to other days.

Only children's fireworks such as sparklers or snap peas are allowed in the Franconian metropolis.

Officially, the city wants to issue the ban on firecrackers on Monday (December 28th).

According to the city spokesman, there is already an urgent application against the order, which has not yet come into force, at the administrative court in Ansbach.

AUGSBURG: There has already been such a legal dispute in Bavaria's third largest city.

The local administrative court has overturned the nationwide ban on fireworks issued by the city.

But the city wants to enforce the ban at the Bavarian Administrative Court in Munich.

The decision will probably not be made there until next week.

The Augsburg city administration wants to forbid people to carry pyrotechnic objects with them or to burn them down anywhere in the 300,000-inhabitant city - even on private land.

"This is necessary due to the high capacity load in the university clinic and the utilization of the emergency services," says Frank Pintsch, officer in charge of public order.

REGENSBURG: The Upper Palatinate city leaves it with a firework ban on public areas in the center.

In mid-November, the municipality had already set a comprehensive ban on firecrackers for the old town, which has been declared a World Heritage Site.

While the Regensburg firecrackers ban went beyond the requirements of other cities, the municipality is now based on the requirements of the state government in Munich from mid-December.

In order to enforce this, controls would be carried out by the police and the city's "municipal order service", explains a spokeswoman.

INGOLSTADT: In the Upper Bavarian city, as in the previous year, there is a ban on fireworks in the old town for fire safety reasons.

In order to control the regulations, municipal employees will again be on the road alongside the police.

"Last year the focus was on checking the ban on fireworks in the old town, this year it will be checking the curfew," says city spokesman Michael Klarner.

BAMBERG: The Upper Franconian city had already had a firework ban on Domplatz and other places in the past.

As a spokesman explains, the Free State's lockdown regulations are now significantly stricter than any previous municipal regulation.

In this respect, additional regulations from the city are not necessary.

POLICE: Police headquarters point out that they will not look for large, forbidden New Year's Eve parties in the residential areas without cause.

The spokesman for the Kempten Presidium, Dominic Geißler, says, however, that a patrol must be sent out when citizens call the police because the celebrations are too big in the neighborhood.

Michael Siefener from the Ministry of the Interior in Munich also emphasizes that there are no grounds for inspecting apartments.

If there are indications of regulatory offenses, the officials on site would have to weigh up whether they are allowed to go into the house.

"To enter an apartment there is an urgent danger to an important legal asset such as health," explains the ministry spokesman.

In such operations, proportionality is always important.
