Linken / Ahlbeck (dpa / mv) - Significantly fewer vehicles were checked at the German-Polish border on the Christmas holidays than before.

Because of the Corona quarantine regulation, the state and federal police are increasingly monitoring the border region in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district.

As a police spokesman announced on Saturday in Neubrandenburg, there were hardly any cars driving there on Boxing Day.

The day before, only twelve vehicles from Germany to Poland were informed of the regulations of the Corona state ordinance and the quarantine ordinance.

Two drivers would have turned back.

In addition, 16 vehicles entering from Poland would have been checked, one of which would have turned around again.

On Christmas Eve itself there were still 110 cars on the way to Poland and 77 cars on the way to Germany that were checked.

The day before Christmas Eve, the numbers were even higher.

People from 420 vehicles leaving were advised of a possible ten-day quarantine on return.

226 vehicles were checked in the direction of Germany.

As a result, traffic at the border is now significantly less and has largely come to a standstill, as the police spokesman said.

Exempt from the quarantine rules are travelers or commuters who live on one side and work on the other - including Polish doctors and nurses.
