26 December 2020Santo Stefano stormy, for half of Italy, on the meteorological front with scattered showers, numerous thunderstorms, snowfalls up to low altitudes and strong gusts of wind.

And temperatures plummeting everywhere: the thermometers will record a sharp and decisive decrease until they drop below freezing in the North next night and in the morning hours on Sunday.

Under the pressure of intense northern currents, the deterioration will mainly focus on the central-southern regions.

Under close observation the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines where some snow will fall even at very low altitudes.

Meanwhile this morning the first snowflakes fell on Vesuvius.

The cities that are located around the volcano woke up with the rain and with a marked drop in temperatures, just as the top of the crater was partially whitened.

In Campania the yellow weather alert is in effect until tonight.

On the other hand, scattered rains and showers will hit Sardinia, the inland areas of Tuscany, Umbria, Marche and Abruzzo and the whole of the South with some storms.

Even on the central Apennine area, snow may fall at low altitudes (300-400 m) and higher altitudes on the southern one.

During the afternoon and evening, the presence of a cyclonic area over Italy will continue to maintain weather at times perturbed on the same regions especially in the south of the Marche, in Abruzzo up to Molise with snowfall locally in the form of a storm above 400 -500 m further decreasing in the evening.

Definitely drier and quieter weather in the North with a rapid improvement also expected in Tuscany.

From the Civil Protection came the yellow alert for today on part of Emilia-Romagna, on Marche, Umbria, part of Lazio, on Abruzzo, Molise, Campania, Puglia, part of Basilicata, on Calabria and in some areas of Sicily .
