Munich (dpa) - Maybe difficult to imagine in the Corona lockdown, but the ADAC expects traffic jams again in the coming year due to ongoing or planned major construction sites.
The car club took a closer look at the main routes, which were already very congested, and listed those where in 2021 several permanent road works in a row will slow down traffic:
A1 Hagen - Cologne,
A1 / A46 around the Hilden junction,
A3 Nuremberg - Würzburg,
A3 south of Regensburg,
A3 border Netherlands - Bottrop,
A4 Hermsdorf - Pulsnitz,
A6 junction Weinsberg - Bad Rappenau,
A7 Bad Hersfeld - junction Feuchtwangen / Crailsheim,
A7 Göttingen - Hanover,
A9 Dreieck Holledau - Ingolstadt,
A10 northern Berliner Ring,
A45 Hagen - Gießen.
All motorways that are numbered with three digits are little affected by traffic jams.
The ADAC explicitly named the A542 (connection between A59 and A3 near Langenfeld in the Rhineland), A659 (connection between A6 and A5 near Mannheim) and A952 (connection from the A95 to Starnberg).
The ADAC only counted a handful of traffic jams on these routes this year.

On the other hand, the A40 in the Ruhr area is at the forefront of the most heavily used motorways because a truck fire damaged a bridge and this resulted in weeks of closings and construction work.
On the A40 from Essen to Duisburg, ADAC counted a staggering 6470 traffic jams this year.
