Withdrawing Egyptian nationality is a new weapon that the ruling regime uses for the first time against its opponents, after years of smear campaigns, arrests and arrests of relatives and relatives, and a ban on renewing passports for those residing outside the country.

Najib, a political activist in Turkey, was the first to be subjected to a decision by the opposition outside, amid confirmation by Al-Jazeera Net that "a crazy decision may be the beginning against the opposition, which requires serious action."

Decision No. 48 of 2020, issued on Thursday by Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly, agreeing to revoke Najib's nationality, on the grounds that a judgment was issued guilty of her in a felony harmful to state security from abroad.

Naguib is the first case of political activists and opponents of the ruling regime, who is exposed to a decision to withdraw the Egyptian nationality.

Others are also facing cases brought by close people to President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and his security apparatus, to withdraw their nationality, on the grounds of opposing the regime and working in channels hostile to the country, including the media professionals Muhammad Nasser, Moataz Matar, Abdullah Al-Sharif, Hamza Zawbaa.

Naguib, the wife of the opposition actor Hisham Abdullah, residing in Turkey, is one of the most prominent critics of the Egyptian regime through communication platforms and in her television interventions, and she was one of the first dissidents of the Tamarod movement that supported the overthrow of the late President Mohamed Morsi in the summer of 2013.

A 'crazy' decision

Naguib confirmed her shock at the decision, and its lack of understanding of it, and described it in statements to Al-Jazeera Net as a “crazy decision” that is not based on any law or constitution, denying the allegations that came in the authorities ’decision, as it is of Syrian origin, confirming that she does indeed have Syrian assets, but she is of Egyptian birth. And growing up, I was born in Cairo governorate on the third of February 1972.

This activist challenged the Egyptian government to show any official documents in the country confirming that she is Syrian, explaining that she only holds Egyptian nationality, and that she has proof that she is of Egyptian origin and upbringing, and has now become stateless after the Egyptian decision.

Naguib condemned the fact that an officer with the rank of lieutenant colonel in the General Intelligence becomes the one who runs the state, issues decisions and controls the fate of people, and revokes their nationality.

She added, "I was subjected to a systematic campaign in Al-Sisi's media, and I received threats through messages from close to the Egyptian regime, due to the leaks broadcast by my husband, artist Hisham Abdullah, through his TV program, which included confessions of the former activist in the Tamarod movement, Doaa Khalifa, explaining the role played by Officer Ahmed Shaban, the official in the office of the Director of General Intelligence, Abbas Kamel

The opposition move is a duty

Regarding the legal moves that she is about to do, Naguib indicated that she did not appoint any of the lawyers before her departure from Egypt, and that the Egyptian consulate refused to work for her, which is an obstacle to her progress of an appeal against the prime minister's decision within 60 days in accordance with Egyptian law.

Naguib said, "The opposition must realize that the decision to withdraw nationality is a beginning, and it must take the matter seriously, and that it is a decision that affects the opposition and threatens its existence, and it is the beginning, today Ghada Najib and tomorrow S and SAD."

In the conclusion of her speech, she demanded the opposition to have a unified position against this crime that the Egyptian regime committed against it.

The action taken by the authorities came after years of prosecutions, arrests, and death sentences for opponents of the regime, and based their decision on the amendments introduced by the government on Law No. 26 of 1975, which regulates nationality, in September 2017, to expand the cases of revoking it “for anyone who targets public order. To the state. "

Amendments to the law included revoking citizenship in the event of a court ruling confirming that the nationality holder has joined any group, association, body, organization, gang, or entity that aims to undermine the state’s public order, or undermine its social, economic or political order by force or by any illegal means.

The law expanded the addition of a new case for revoking citizenship related to the issuance of a conviction judgment for a crime harmful to the security of the state by a party abroad or internally, and this is the case that was applied to political activist Najib.

A number of leaders, symbols, and opposition media figures abroad are facing lawsuits to revoke their nationality, as the lawyer close to the regime, Samir Sabri, filed a lawsuit before the Administrative Court, in June 2020, to revoke the nationality of a number of national symbols, claiming that they were naturalized by Turkish citizenship. .

Criticism

Commenting on the decision issued against the political activist Naguib, Ayman Nour, leader of the Revolution Ghad Party and former presidential candidate, affirmed his solidarity and rejection of this decision, which he described as unjust and comical.

Speaking to Al-Jazeera Net, Nour indicated that the ruling on the activist, on which Madbouly relied in his decision, is not final or final, and does not arrange productive legal effects, as a judgment in absentia, was not issued against her, and she was unable to defend herself, regarding what was stated There are comic accusations.

Nour explained that this decision is lapsed due to the lack of its foundations and legal reasons, and the availability of manifestations of maliciousness and political revenge against Najib, as a punishment for her for exercising her right to express opinion and for her husband's stances.

At the end of his speech, he denounced tens of thousands of Egyptians being deprived of their right to move, travel, return and renew their passports abroad, due to crimes in violation of the law and international conventions practiced by Sisi and his regime.

Political punishment

In turn, the journalist Zawbaa considered that the decision issued against Najeeb is a political punishment aimed at pressuring opponents to stop expressing their opinion on the ruling regime.

In his speech to Al-Jazeera Net, he indicated that an Egyptian who merely expresses an opinion that does not comply with the system is subject to abuse and punishment, and what happened in terms of fabricating cases for a number of doctors who expressed their opinion about the state's preparations to confront the Corona crisis is the best evidence.

Zawbaa, the head of the Egyptian Media Association abroad, confirmed that he and a number of media professionals and politicians were exposed to instituting lawsuits against them by close to the current regime.

He added, "The judicial system in Egypt suffers from a real crisis, and the law is decided according to the size of the Sultan, and whatever decisions he issues come within the framework of punishment until the opposition stops."

Zawbaa stressed that the Egyptian regime's resort to revoking citizenship is evidence of its failure and its lack of resourcefulness in the face of a handful of media professionals and politicians, and it is a clear confusion in its policies.

Move my rights and wait for a response

The head of the Revolution Ghad Party reiterated the importance of adopting and confronting international human rights organizations, parliaments of the world, and all supporters of freedom in the world, against issues of assaulting the rights of Egyptians at home and abroad, most notably the right to nationality and the rights associated with it in travel documents, in accordance with international covenants and covenants.

As for Zawbaa, he concluded his statements that the regime will wait for the Western reaction to such decisions, and how the response will be by international organizations.
