Offenbach (dpa) - Storm low "Hermine" is moving from the North Atlantic towards Germany and will pull inland with strong gusts at the weekend.

The German Weather Service announced on Friday in Offenbach that the wind was already picking up on the coasts and in the mountains on Saturday afternoon.

In addition to milder air, “Hermione” also brings strong winds and occasionally heavier precipitation.

By Sunday afternoon, the low then penetrated to the southwest.

Only the south-east of the country remains a bit out of the way.

The meteorologists predict some heavy storms on the coasts at speeds of around 100 kilometers per hour on Sunday.

Heavy gusts of wind on the mountains and even hurricane gusts of up to 130 kilometers per hour are expected on the summit.

It is advisable to use the Christmas holidays to prepare for the following storm, said the meteorologists.

Loose objects on plots or balconies should be attached.

In the west and southwest, leaves should be removed from drains so that rainwater can drain away.

On Monday the weather calmed down a bit, then squalls were only to be expected in the mountainous areas.

On Saturday the clouds are increasing in the north and northwest and it is raining a little.

Otherwise it is cloudy, in the south there are also longer clearings.

The daily highs in the northwest are five to seven degrees, otherwise zero to four degrees.

In the night of Sunday there is extensive precipitation in the northwest, in the mountainous region partly as snow.

While the temperatures here remain positive, they drop below minus ten degrees locally on the edge of the Alps.

On Sunday, things will initially be cheered up in the southeast and east.

In the north-west half it is very cloudy with widespread rainfall.

There are widespread stormy gusts, in the west also gusts, and in the mountains heavy gusts of wind, in the summit areas hurricane-like.
