Bedburg-Hau (dpa / lnw) - A 62-year-old was injured in a kitchen fire in Bedburg-Hau on the Lower Rhine.

The man was taken to hospital on suspicion of smoke inhalation.

An overheated stove is said to have caused the fire, the police said on Friday morning.

Accordingly, a resident noticed smoke on a balcony of the apartment building on Thursday evening and then notified the fire brigade.

When the rescue workers arrived, the 62-year-old resident was still in his apartment.

Since the man did not respond to knocking and ringing, the fire brigade gained access to the apartment via the balcony and put out the fire.

According to the fire department, the man is said to have blocked his apartment door from the inside.
