Berlin (dpa / bb) - The residents of a high-rise in the Neu-Hohenschönhausen district did not experience a nice Christmas Eve.

After a cellar fire, the house was temporarily disconnected from the electricity and water networks and was therefore difficult to live in, as a fire department spokesman said on Friday night.

"Of course that's not so nice over the holidays."

The district office ensures that those affected have a place to stay for the Christmas days.

In the house on Arenshooper Strasse there had been a major fire brigade operation that afternoon. For a still unknown cause, parts of a power distribution system as well as adjacent basement sheds caught fire. The fire itself was not great. It was said to have caused a lot of smoke. After a good hour the fire was extinguished. The Berlin fire brigade had arrived with 105 emergency services.
