London (dpa) - Even after the end of the Brexit transition phase in Great Britain, travelers from Germany will probably not have to adjust to additional roaming charges.

This was confirmed by the mobile operator at the request of the German press agency.

"With us, Great Britain remains in the EU tariffs, just as Switzerland is already included," said a spokesman for Deutsche Telekom.

Vodafone also said: "So nothing will change in the tariffs for the time being."

The same applies to the third major mobile operator, Telefónica: "For O2 customers who travel to Great Britain, the current conditions of their respective tariffs are valid until further notice," said a spokesman.

1 & 1 also announced: "For customers of 1 & 1, EU roaming is still possible in Great Britain until further notice."

The EU had abolished charges for mobile surfing with its “Roam Like Home” rules within EU countries.

With its exit from the EU, Great Britain no longer falls under this regulation - and at the turn of the year the Brexit transition phase will expire, in which the same rules have largely applied as before.

Whether a provider charges extra fees for mobile surfing abroad, however, depends on which regulations the mobile phone providers of the states have made with each other.

For free roaming, a country does not necessarily have to be part of the EU - in Norway and Iceland, for example, similar rules apply to EU travelers.

British and German mobile phone companies do not want to charge each other for roaming costs.

"There are currently no signs that this will change," said the Vodafone spokesman.
