Grimma (dpa / sn) - In Saxony, a first case of bird flu has been confirmed in a poultry population.

A poultry farm in the district of Leipziger Land is affected.

"All animal owners must now adhere to the regulations in order to prevent the spread of the bird plague," said Health Minister Petra Köpping (SPD) on Friday.

In the afternoon, the district office had initially spoken of a suspected case.

A little later the confirmation from the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut arrived.

It is very challenging that after the corona pandemic and the African swine fever, another crisis has overtaken Saxony with avian influenza, emphasized Köpping.
