Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Drought has harmed farmers in Baden-Württemberg less this year than initially feared.

At the beginning of the harvest, the forecasts were mostly more negative due to the weather, said a spokeswoman for the state farmers' association in Stuttgart.

The harvest in the southwest turned out very differently depending on the region, but still satisfactory in view of the difficult conditions.

The farmers do not have to fear a shortage of feed in the area.

Individual companies are still severely affected.

The local forest suffered extremely from the third dry year in a row.

Because of the bark beetle, forest farmers have to contend with an extreme drop in wood prices.

The corona pandemic had a more drastic impact on farmers.

The pig farms in the country are particularly affected.

Due to closed restaurants and the ban on events, the demand for agricultural products has decreased significantly, according to the farmers' association.

This represents around 36,000 farmers in the southwest.
