December 24, 2020 After Great Britain and South Africa, a new variation of Covid would have emerged in Nigeria.

The alarm comes from the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control of the African Union (Africa Cdc).

The mutation is similar to the English and South African mutations, but the strain appears to be different.

John Nkengasong, head of the institution, stated that the data are "very limited".

But there is information on the spread of this variant in Nigeria or elsewhere.

Mutations will be more and more frequent

"We must expect these new variants to continue to emerge," he added, confirming that the variant identified in South Africa spreads rapidly and is likely responsible for the second wave in the country.

British Health Secretary Matt Hancock underlined the speed of transmission of the new variation.

There are two confirmed cases in the South African country.

"In this case - said Hancock at a press conference in Downing Street - it seems that there has been a further change with respect to the new virus" press.

The British government has therefore announced "immediate restrictions", essentially quarantine, for anyone who has been in the country in the past two weeks.

"We are incredibly grateful to the South African government for their transparency," added Hancock.
