The Clermont-Ferrand prosecutor's office announced on Wednesday morning the death of three gendarmes, killed by a madman in Saint-Just, in the department of Puy-de-Dôme.

A fourth representative of the police was injured.

Three gendarmes were killed and a fourth injured by a madman in an isolated hamlet near Saint-Just, in Puy-de-Dôme, on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, AFP learned from corroborating sources. The soldiers, who belonged to Ambert's company, were fatally shot by a 48-year-old man as they tried to rescue a woman who had taken refuge on the roof of a house.
