The adverse reactions of proprietary Chinese medicines are "not clear", the pharmacist teaches you how to break

In the instructions of proprietary Chinese medicines, the four words "unclear" often appear. For example, the "adverse reaction" item of Suxiao Jiuxin Pill for the treatment of coronary heart disease is written "unclear". The compound fresh bamboo leachate for the treatment of cough The "adverse reaction" item also reads "not clear yet."

So, are the adverse reactions of these proprietary Chinese medicines really unclear?

How can I get information about adverse reactions from other sources?

Today, I will introduce 3 ways to solve such problems.

The first method: find other proprietary Chinese medicines of the same efficacy subcategory. In the efficacy classification of proprietary Chinese medicines, there is a very special concept called "function subcategory".

What does that mean?

It is a type of proprietary Chinese medicines with repeated ingredients and very similar main effects, which can be used as alternatives for clinical treatment.

For example, Xin Wen Jie Table Medicine is a sub-category of efficacy. Fenghan Ganmao Granules and Ganmao Shufeng Pills are both varieties in this subcategory. The formula compatibility and performance of the two are very similar.

For another example, medicines for promoting qi and blood circulation are also a subcategory of efficacy. Compound Danshen Dripping Pills and Suxiao Jiuxin Pills are both varieties in this subcategory, and their medicinal properties are very similar.

Therefore, although the side effects of Suxiao Jiuxin Pills are "unclear", but the same sub-category of compound Danshen dripping pills writes "occasionally gastrointestinal discomfort".

Considering that this adverse reaction is likely to be caused by borneol’s "fighting" nature, and Suxiao Jiuxin Pills also contain borneol, so patients taking Suxiao Jiuxin Pills can also be "gastrointestinal discomfort" as potential The content of the adverse reaction.

The second method: Analyze the potency and toxicity of the toxic ingredients contained in proprietary Chinese medicines. The medicinal properties and toxicity of Chinese medicines are two sides of the bias. Therefore, a Chinese medicine with a strong bias has a strong medicinal property and a more significant The potential toxicity.

By analyzing the adverse reactions of the toxic and potent components of the Chinese patent medicine, the side effects of the whole Chinese patent medicine can be hinted.

For example, although the adverse reaction of the compound fresh bamboo leachate is written "not clear", the adverse reaction of the toxic component of Pinellia ternata is clear.

From "Chinese Materia Medica", it can be known that raw Pinellia is a toxic traditional Chinese medicine with a certain irritation, manifested by throat pungency and nausea. Improper use can cause poisoning reactions, including mouth and tongue numbness, abdominal pain, diarrhea, dizziness, heart palpitations, etc.

Therefore, the compound fresh bamboo leachate may also have a similar "effect". Pay attention to the side effects of abdominal pain, diarrhea, dizziness and palpitation when taking it.

The third method: collect publicly reported adverse reaction cases and post-market evaluation data. According to publicly published literature, search for case reports of adverse reactions after medication, analyze and summarize them to form prompt information.

Furthermore, through the system's post-marketing evaluation, the unclear information is determined and the instructions are revised.

At present, the instructions of many proprietary Chinese medicines have been revised based on the adverse reaction monitoring data re-evaluated after marketing. For example, in the 2018 revision, the adverse reactions of the instructions of Podilan anti-inflammatory oral preparations were adjusted from the original "unclear" to "this The preparation has the following adverse reaction reports: nausea, vomiting, abdominal distension, abdominal pain, diarrhea, fatigue, dizziness, etc.; skin rash, itching and other allergic reactions."

It should be noted that the actual medication situation and the cause of the harm are more complicated, and there is no information on the incidence. This kind of information needs to be treated in a correct way, and the food should not be abandoned due to choking.

Finally, it should be noted that the "unclear" written in the "adverse reaction" item of the Chinese patent medicine manual does not mean that it is safe or dangerous.

If you are in doubt, please consult your doctor and pharmacist, and use the medicine correctly and rationally under their guidance.
