Carles Puigdemont will once again be the electoral hook for Junts per Catalunya in the regional elections on February 14.

The former president of the Generalitat announced this afternoon that he will head the list of his new party although he does not aspire to repeat in office, a role that will be reserved for Laura Borràs, winner of the primaries for the candidacy for Barcelona.

The current MEP has released a video on social networks in which he announces that he will propose to the Party Executive to head the list for Barcelona so that, for the first time, "a woman [Borràs] is president of Catalonia", a step that should be endorsed later by the militancy.

In this way, the image of Puigdemont will once again be the letter of presentation of Junts in the next elections, as it already happened in December 2017, when against all odds the newly created electoral brand JxCat turned the polls upside down and outnumbered the votes and seats for Esquerra Republicana, which finished in third position despite leading all the polls.

The former Catalan president has claimed that his party, already completely detached from PDeCAT, is the best option to "guarantee a government committed and determined on October 1 that builds a republic and deconstructs a monarchy" and achieve "the strategic unity that leads to recognition. Catalonia as an independent state ".

Before starting the Junts primary process, Puigdemont announced that he was resigning as the party's candidate for the presidency of the Generalitat, but explained that he would be part of the candidacy for 14-F without revealing in which position he would do it.

However, and despite the fact that he assured that he would support the one chosen by the militancy, the former

president

already clearly marked the limits: "I will not be a candidate for the presidency of the Generalitat, but I do not renounce to lead the project."

In a joint video to try to dispel doubts about his internal discrepancies, Borràs has gratefully addressed Puigdemont for the "privilege" and the "enormous responsibility" of working with him.
