Just a few days after the EU approves the Pfizer / Biontech vaccine, the Östergötland region is expected to deliver the first doses to the county.

- We expect to receive the first doses during the Christmas weekend.

In Östergötland, the plan is to start vaccination on Sunday, 27 December.

The doses are aimed at the elderly who live in special housing.

The doses will be distributed between the county parts and 200 people will be vaccinated initially, says Rickard Lundin, chief of staff at the Östergötland region.

More doses in the first weeks

Afterwards, additional doses will be delivered continuously and weekly.

- In the first weeks, it is estimated that there will be doses that are estimated to be enough for 2000 individuals per week.

Those doses are also aimed at the elderly who receive care, says Rickard Lundin.

In total, the region estimates that approximately 370,000 will be offered vaccines in Östergötland.

Those who will be offered are all individuals in the county over the age of 18.

- The figures are extremely preliminary, but they are the information that we are currently working on.

We are well prepared and have a good stock status, says Rickard Lundin.

Great response

A large number of nurses and others with similar skills have responded to the Region's appeal.

- we have received a very good response from nurses and now have about 600 registrations of interest, says Rickard Lundin.
