The first direct commercial flight between Israel and Morocco took off from Tel Aviv yesterday, in a symbolic move after the two countries reached a peace agreement to normalize relations between them, mediated by the United States.

The plane belonging to the Israeli El Al company took off from Ben Gurion Airport to Morocco, with an American delegation headed by the US President's son-in-law and advisor Jared Kushner, and an Israeli headed by the Special Adviser to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, to sign a series of bilateral agreements, embodying what was agreed upon to establish diplomatic relations.

The trip aims for a visit that includes a meeting with King Mohammed VI, to present the Trump administration's achievements in Middle East diplomacy, weeks before President-elect Joe Biden arrives at the White House to succeed Trump.

Before the plane took off from the airport runway, Kushner said, "I hope this trip to Morocco creates the same amount of momentum today."

And he raised the flags of the two countries on the plane, with the word "Peace" written on them in Hebrew, Arabic and English.

Jared Kushner pointed out that "over the past 75 years, there has been a separation between Jews and Muslims, and this is not a normal situation."

He emphasized that "for hundreds and thousands of years, Jews and Muslims have lived in this region together, and I believe that what he is honest now is a return to that base."
