22 December 2020 A strong earthquake - estimated by the Ingv of magnitude 4.4 - was felt this evening, at 21.27, in eastern Sicily in the Ragusa area. 



The earth shook for about ten seconds.

The earthquake was clearly felt in the Ragusa, Syracuse and Catania areas.

In Syracuse panic among the people who saw the shaky house furniture.

For the Civil Protection, at the moment there are no damages or injuries.  



The epicenter was located 15 kilometers from Acate, in the province of Ragusa, at a depth of 16 kilometers.

The hypocenter was located 15 kilometers south of Acate, that is, in the sea, a few kilometers from the coast.

The depth of the event is instead estimated at 30 kilometers. 



The earth trembles even at the foot of Mount Etna where many on social media have reported a strong earthquake felt in Catania city and in various municipalities of the hinterland including Misterbianco, Acireale and Sant'Agata li Battiati. 



The firefighters report 'for now only requests for information but no damage reported'.
