Berlin (dpa / bb) - The measures to improve tenant protection at the housing associations of the State of Berlin during the Corona crisis will be extended until the end of March.

The Senate decided on Tuesday at its last regular meeting of the year, as a spokeswoman announced afterwards.

"Rent increases, both for apartment and commercial tenants of the state-owned housing associations, remain excluded until March 31," said the Senator for Urban Development and Housing, Sebastian Scheel (left).

The housing associations are also called upon to work with their tenants to find accommodating solutions in the event of corona-related rent arrears.

"I appeal to private Berlin landlords and landlords to join this path," said Scheel.

"The second wave of the corona pandemic also hit Berlin hard."

The Senate announced that it would ensure that the city's housing associations maintain their previous protective measures unchanged.

In the event of arrears in rent, individual and accommodating solutions should continue to be agreed, no notice of termination due to arrears should be given and no evictions of inhabited apartments should be initiated.

According to the information, the measures also apply to the commercial leases of the municipal housing companies.
