Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - In the months of the Corona crisis, the number of people in need at the food banks in Baden-Württemberg increased.

"Suddenly people come who have never dealt with blackboards before," said the Baden-Württemberg regional association.

But while the number of customers has risen, the number of people in the food banks' shops is going down overall, said association spokesman Udo Engelhardt.

Sven Jaissle, head of the Neckar-Alb region, also says that he is registering around ten percent more customer cards that have been requested for the food banks than in the previous year.

These include those affected on short-time work.

At the same time, fewer customers would come overall, partly because of the waiting times and also for fear of infection.

Many preferred to shop in an inexpensive supermarket nearby because they could shop faster in the discounter.

Regular customers now only stopped by once a week.
