Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The expansion of the Neckar-Alb regional tram received an important financial boost from Stuttgart on Tuesday.

According to its own statements, the Ministry of Transport has approved the state's funding for module 1 of the Neckar-Alb regional light rail system.

It includes the electrification and expansion of the Ermstalbahn between Metzingen and Bad Urach and the expansion of the Ammertalbahn between Tübingen and Herrenberg.

In addition, new stops are to be built on the route between Metzingen and Tübingen.

As the ministry announced on Tuesday, the costs are around 122 million euros.

In the coming years, the overall "Regional Stadtbahn Neckar-Alb" project is to be continued with further construction phases.

Among other things, the networking of Tübingen and Reutlingen with the Neckar-Alb region through the construction of new light rail lines is planned.

Transport Minister Winfried Hermann (Greens) emphasized that the new funding conditions of the federal government and the state had improved significantly.

“It was worth the wait for the municipalities.

Your share of the financing is falling ”, it says in the message.

Federal and state funding amounts to 95 million euros.

This means that the project is already benefiting from the higher funding rates introduced this year.

The green-black state government decided in the autumn to give greater support to local rail transport.

The state wants to support projects that are largely financed by federal funds to improve local transport in communities (GVFG federal program).

The federal government had already increased its funding quotas, reduced the minimum project size and introduced new support options.
