Hanover (dpa) - Hanover 96 would like to sign a new striker in January, in order to maybe get one more place on the promotion places of the 2nd Bundesliga.

The “Bild” newspaper and the “Sportbuzzer” Internet portal reported on Tuesday from several candidates with whom the club is concerned.

This includes Vedad Ibisevic, whose contract with FC Schalke 04 will be terminated after December 31st.

Also: Serdar Dursun from second division rival SV Darmstadt 98, who was coach Kenan Kocak's preferred candidate in the summer.

And also John Guidetti, whom the Lower Saxony borrowed from Deportivo Alaves for half a year in the second half of last season.

According to media reports, a move from Ibisevic is unlikely, as the Bosnian is already 36 years old.

With seven points behind the relegation place, the 96ers are currently only in twelfth place in the table.

On Wednesday evening (8.45 p.m. / Sky) they will play against Werder Bremen in the DFB Cup.
