Düsseldorf / Cologne (dpa / lnw) - The Cologne district government has warned against corona rapid tests that have been illegally marketed nationwide.
If they were not used by specialists, they could have "catastrophic consequences of infection".
As the authority announced on Monday evening, such rapid tests have been illegally placed on the market at gas stations, supermarkets, veterinary practices, breweries and many other places.
The district government warned against supposed safety through false negative tests when improper use by laypeople - especially before the upcoming holidays.
A risk of injury cannot be ruled out either.
According to the information, the tests were brought into circulation by a company in Frechen and can therefore be freely purchased by private customers without specialist knowledge.
The district government announced that tests by two different manufacturers had been called back "as an urgent security measure".
"The rapid tests are currently still partially open - and taken out of the original large packaging - on the sales counter."

Affected are the products "Covid-19 Ag Test" from the manufacturer nal von minden GmbH and "blnk Novel Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) Antigen Rapid Test Cassette (Swab)" from the manufacturer Hangzhou Realy Tech Co. The district government urgently warns untrained private individuals before buying and using the rapid test independently.
The manager of the company from Frechen, together with the Hürth criminal police and the public order office, had his home and company searched.
A customer list had been secured there.
"The customer list contains around 5700 customers of corona rapid tests throughout Germany, of whom between 4000 and 4500 customers should not have received the test," reported the district government.
