Karlsruhe (AP) - Hamburger SV is second in the table in the mini winter break of the 2nd Bundesliga.

Striker Simon Terodde (82nd minute) secured the promotion favorites a late 2-1 (1-1) win at Karlsruher SC.

The strong Bakery Jatta (3rd) gave HSV an early lead after a long dribble through midfield.

KSC attacker Philipp Hofmann (14th), however, scored the interim 1-1 with his seventh goal of the season before the break.

Despite a moderate second half, HSV benefited in the end from the fact that KSC defender Philip Heise had seen yellow-red in the 77th minute for repeated foul play.

After the third defeat, the Baden slipped back in the direction of the relegation places.

HSV, on the other hand, reinforced their ambitions for promotion with the third win in a row.

The Hamburgers had missed it in the first round to pull away early.

Jeremy Dudziak (6th / 34th), Terodde (20th) and Khaled Narey (26th) missed the best opportunities.

But then Terodde struck late when he prevailed against two KSC defenders after a cross from Sonny Kittel.
