Only 9% of Catalans endorse the model of linguistic immersion by which the schools of Catalonia are governed and which involves teaching only in Catalan.

64% opt for a trilingual system -with Spanish, Catalan and English- and 21% defend bilingual learning in which Spanish and Catalan are taught in a similar proportion.

This is noted by a GAD3 survey commissioned by the Catalan Civil Society association (SCC) in which it is also revealed that two out of three interviewees ask for a common test of Spanish at the end of ESO and request that the first language of schooling be the parents and not, in a systematic way, Catalan.

For decades, the Generalitat has relied on the fact that Catalan was an endangered language to impose an education where Spanish only has a place in the subject of Spanish Language and Literature, which has a presence of two hours a week in Primary and three in Secondary .

The survey reveals that 60% of Catalans maintain that "the first language of educational contact should be the parents' language", despite the fact that the Generalitat has always refused to recognize this right, protected by UNESCO and the legislation state.

The survey was presented this Monday to several parliamentary groups in the Senate on the eve of the final approval of the Celaá Law on Wednesday, which not only leaves it up to the Generalitat to establish and control the language spoken in schools, but also to its passage through the passing of amendments in Congress, has lost the reference to Castilian as the vehicular language of education and official of the State.

Last week, the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) ruled in a landmark ruling that the Generalitat should guarantee at least 25% of Spanish in all schools, the equivalent of two subjects (Language and one more core subject).

For most of those interviewed this system is "very insufficient".

The results of the survey coincide with the GAD3 survey in 2015 and GESOP in 2017, which reflect the feelings of a total of 4,000 Catalans interviewed during the last five years.

In this one 1,000 people have been asked.

"What this survey reveals is something as simple as that Catalans want the best education for their children and they know that this is very far from the monolingual tax system shielded by the Generalitat," said the president of the Catalan Civil Society, Fernando Sánchez Costa, who has warned that "bilingualism and trilingualism cannot be an elite privilege, but an option for all Catalans" and has called for a change in the Lomloe in the Senate to "guarantee the vehicular nature of Castilian".
