Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - North Rhine-Westphalia expects the first delivery with 9750 vaccine doses against the corona virus on Christmas Day.

The NRW Ministry of Health announced this on Monday evening at the request of the German Press Agency in Düsseldorf.

On December 28th and 30th, further deliveries with a total of 273,000 vaccine doses for the most populous federal state are to follow.

In addition, exactly 141,374 servings of the serum per week are expected in January.

Previously, after a conference of health ministers from the federal and state governments, the Berlin Senate Department announced that Germany should receive the first delivery of the approved vaccine from the Mainz company Biontech and its US partner Pfizer on December 26th.

151,125 vaccine doses are expected.

Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) said on Twitter that by the end of this year, a total of more than 1.3 million vaccine doses should be delivered to the federal states and distributed by them to vaccination teams.

At least another 670,000 cans would be shipped every week in January.

He confirmed that vaccinations in Germany should start on December 27th.

NRW Health Minister Karl-Josef Laumann (CDU) was pleased about the approval.

"With great effort we have made the necessary preparations in North Rhine-Westphalia in recent weeks," he told the dpa.

"One thing is clear: the vaccine that arrives in North Rhine-Westphalia will be vaccinated as soon as possible."

For the time being, however, this will not happen in the vaccination centers.

"Due to the initially limited quantities, we will start vaccinating in the care facilities."
