Potsdam (dpa / bb) - Brandenburg's Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD) expects that the construction of the factory of the electric car manufacturer Tesla in Grünheide near Berlin can remain on schedule despite the construction freeze.

The State Environment Agency imposed the construction freeze last week because Tesla has not yet paid a security deposit for any dismantling costs.

There is now a deadline of January 4th.

"We very much hope that we will get a good agreement well before January 4th so that the construction freeze can be lifted soon," said Woidke on Monday after a meeting of the Tesla task force in the state chancellery.

"I see a good chance of meeting the schedule that production will start there in July."

But the process shows that there is no such thing as a “Lex Tesla”, said Woidke.

"And that we in the state of Brandenburg must insist on the rules that also apply to other investors."

The Higher Administrative Court of Berlin-Brandenburg also stopped the clearing of trees in parts on Friday after a complaint from nature conservation associations.

The associations are primarily concerned with protecting the species of sand lizards.

In this context, Woidke rejected any changes to nature conservation.

"We do not want to go against nature conservation, but rather with nature conservation to set up industries," said the head of government.

"We want to show that climate protection can also be combined with jobs and value creation."
