Erfurt (dpa / th) - The general debate on the Thuringian record budget for 2021 has started in the state parliament in Erfurt.

The budget, which is to be decided on Monday after months of debate, has a volume of almost twelve billion euros.

This is the highest expenditure since reunification.

Due to collapsed tax revenues and additional expenses due to the Corona crisis, loans of almost 1.6 billion euros are to be taken out this year and next to finance the expenses.

The chairman of the budget committee, Volker Emde, recommended that parliament approve the budget, which has been changed in many respects, as well as a number of related laws. The government draft was only worth EUR 11.4 billion. The limited speaking time agreed by the parliamentary groups was criticized by AfD parliamentary group leader Björn Höcke on behalf of the largest opposition group.
