Borscht, smetana, crab: the prestigious French gastronomic guide Michelin will launch in 2021 its first selection of Moscow restaurants, which have experienced a renaissance in recent years, Michelin announced on Monday, December 21.

"The Michelin Guide announces its arrival in Moscow and will unveil its first selection of restaurants in 2021," the iconic red guide announced in a statement. 

"The landscape of this mysterious and timeless capital is a jewel, showcasing both local Russian products and the incredible cosmopolitanism of world cuisines," said in this press release Gwendal Poullennec, international director of Michelin Guides, visiting Moscow on Monday. 

"The Russian culinary scene has seen new trends appear over the past 30 years, embodied by talented chefs who are committed to enhancing the quality of local products such as crab from Vladivostok, Borodinsky bread, black halibut from Murmansk, la smetana "(sour cream), listed the guide, also citing" borscht and rassolnik ", traditional soups.  

New culinary destinations

"In recent years, Moscow's gastronomy has become a point of attraction for tourists. Today everyone can find in Moscow a wide variety of cuisines and culinary trends, and our restaurants occupy the first places in the main world rankings", is for his part congratulated the mayor of Moscow Sergei Sobyanin.

The Michelin Guide cites Moscow in the wake of Beijing, Slovenia and California as new destinations selected by their experts.

Another leading French guide, Gault et Millau, launched a first Russian edition in 2018. 

The best rating was given to the White Rabbit restaurant of chef Vladimir Moukhine, which appears in thirteenth place in the prestigious "50 Best" ranking in 2019.

The Gault and Millau guide was sold in 2019 to Russian investors.
