Bad Ems (dpa / lrs) - Presumably because of the Corona restrictions, the number of traffic accidents in Rhineland-Palatinate has decreased this year.

From March to May in particular, there were significantly fewer vehicles on the road, as the State Statistical Office in Bad Ems announced on Monday.

From January to October 2020, 122 people lost their lives in road accidents.

That was 14 fewer than in the first ten months of the previous year.

In October 2020, police officers reported twelve fatalities - one more than in October 2019.

2,707 people involved in accidents were seriously injured in the first ten months of this year - 11 percent fewer than in the same period last year.

The number of slightly injured people fell by 8.8 percent to 11,565. The police registered a total of 104,228 traffic accidents in Rhineland-Palatinate from January to October.

That was 13 percent less than in the same period last year.

In around 89 percent of this year's accidents up to October, only property damage occurred.
