Munich (dpa / lby) - Retirement and nursing homes in Bavaria affected by the corona virus will be supported by a new special unit from this Monday.

"As soon as a single case occurs in a home, it is activated," said State Secretary for Health Klaus Holetschek (CSU) of the German Press Agency in Munich.

The aim is to reduce the risk of infection in the homes as quickly as possible.

To this end, the concept provides for temporarily suspending the quota of skilled workers in the homes in an emergency.

The new “rapid care task force” with around 200 people should prevent, advise and monitor.

The staff is recruited from members of the existing task force of the State Office for Health and Food Safety (LGL) and a task force made up of employees from the State Office for Care (LfP).

This takes over the operational planning, coordinates the procedure and monitors the consistent implementation of the measures taken.

In addition, there are experts from the health authorities and the specialist agencies for care and disabled facilities.

In addition to prophylactic advice on mask and test obligations as well as test offers for residents and employees, the task force of the task force also provides, in the event of an infection, to check, among other things, possible relocations of home residents and immediate series tests.

“Another goal is to relieve the facilities as quickly as possible.

That is why we want to put the processes to the test and reduce superfluous bureaucracy where we can, ”emphasized Holetschek.

This also provides for the possibility of temporarily suspending the quota of skilled workers in the homes “to make the facilities more capable of acting and more flexible”.

"One thing is clear: the quality of care must not suffer," emphasized Holetschek.

The fight against the pandemic is about nothing other than protecting people.

In normal times, the skilled worker quota stipulates that at least every second employee in a facility must be a trained specialist.

Elderly care assistants, nursing assistants and comparable assistants are not considered skilled workers.

At least one specialist must also be present during night watch.

The residents of old people's and nursing homes are particularly at risk from the virus.

Most of the deaths after infection were elderly people in homes and with previous illnesses.

This also means that employees are under particularly high work pressure.

With the vaccination against the virus, which will presumably also start in Germany after Christmas, the particularly endangered groups should also be treated first.
