London (AP) - Gabriel Clemens has won the first German duel in the history of the Darts World Cup in London and can look forward to a duel with defending champion Peter Wright after Christmas.

The 37-year-old Saarlander defeated his buddy Nico Kurz 3-1 and is now in the third round, which only begins after the holidays.

The 23-year-old Kurz caused a stir in the second set when he checked 160, 123 and 161 points one after the other.

But it wasn't enough to really annoy Clemens, who was placed 31st.

After Max Hopp (1: 3 against England's Mervyn King) was eliminated, Clemens is the last German representative in the British capital.

In the match against the Scot Wright, "The German Giant" will be a clear outsider.

Previously, tournament favorite Gerwyn Price had reached the third round of the title fights despite major problems.

The Welshman beat his compatriot Jamie Lewis just 3-2 on Monday evening in the corona-related empty Alexandra Palace.

Muscleman Price, who used to be a rugby professional, is a hot candidate for the title alongside champion Wright and world number one Michael van Gerwen (Netherlands).

In the third round, Price faces the winner of the duel Brendan Dolan (Northern Ireland) and Edward Foulkes (Japan).
