Berlin (dpa) - Professional cyclist Emanuel Buchmann is considering doing without a start in the Tour de France in the coming year.

“It cannot be ruled out that Emu will concentrate on another Grand Tour next year.

Which that will be depends on the route, ”said his trainer Dan Lorang of the German press agency.

"The course is definitely not ideal for me in 2021," Buchmann recently told Radsport-News.com about the 108th Tour of France.

The media had recently speculated on Buchmann's start at the 104th Giro d'Italia in May.

The 2021 tour from June 26th to July 18th has two time trials in its program.

The route of the tour of Italy planned for May has not yet been determined.

Buchmann also wanted to take part in the street race (July 24th) at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The 28-year-old Ravensburger is currently preparing for the new season on Mallorca and is due to start racing there in the Mallorca Challenge at the end of January.

«Emu is highly motivated and I have to slow him down during training.

We are very optimistic that he can achieve his goal of a podium on a Grand Tour next year, ”said Lorang.

Buchmann, fourth overall in 2019, was only able to finish this year's tour in 25th place.

A fall a few weeks earlier at the Critérium du Dauphiné had thrown him back in his originally good form.

«We know that it wasn't the performance.

It was simply an unfavorable constellation, ”explained Lorang from Luxembourg.
