The ruling Communist Party of Nepal had been plagued by internal strife for months.

The NCP [Nepal Communist Party] was created in May 2018 by the merger of two major communist parties, but since then it has failed to come to an agreement.

Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli is notably accused of having geopolitical views too in line with China's interests.

In June, the publication of a new map of Nepal encroaching on territories claimed by India divided the party.

On November 13, a former prime minister, also a member of the NCP, accused his successor of corruption in a 13-page document.

Courted by China

Faced with such a divergence of points of view, the current Prime Minister has therefore decided to dissolve it.

It is considered unconstitutional by the rebels, since the NCP dominates Parliament.

Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli said he was ready for a split in the Party, when the elections should start in April.
