Compared with last year, 3.6 per cent more have been admitted to various programs at Umeå University, compared with the national figure of 1.7 per cent.

The most popular are the nursing program and the sociology program.
The corona pandemic comes into play
According to the Swedish Council for Universities and University Colleges, the increased interest in higher education is due to the corona pandemic and a declining labor market.
- The investment in flexible forms of education and an increased range of distance education has been important for the search pressure. High quality of education and Umeå's good reputation as a student city also have positive effects, despite the challenges that the pandemic has entailed, says Heidi Hansson.
