Leicester City advanced to the Premier League standings after winning a precious and deserving two-goal win over Tottenham, on Sunday in the 14th stage of the competition, which also saw Sheffield United draw 1-1 with host Brighton.

Leicester, who won his ninth victory in the competition this season for 5 defeats, rose to 27 points in second place, 4 points behind Liverpool (the defending champions), who are at the top.

On the other hand, Tottenham, who continued his recent disappointing results after failing to achieve any victory for the third match in a row in the competition, stuck at 25 points, to temporarily retreat to fourth place until the end of the rest of the stage matches.

Leicester was the best party in the match, and its players could have added more goals, had it not been for the misfortune that had befallen them on more than one occasion, to inflict their third defeat at Tottenham in the competition this season and the second in a row, after losing also to Liverpool in the last stage.

Veteran star Jimmy Vardy scored the goal for Leicester in the fourth minute of stoppage time for the first half, to score his 11th goal in the competition this season, and he shares second place in the competition's scorers' ranking with South Korean Son Heung-min and Dominic Calvert Leeuwen of Tottenham and Everton players respectively, by a difference Two goals behind Egyptian international star Mohamed Salah, the Liverpool player, who is currently the top scorer.

Leicester's second goal came through friendly fire, after the Belgian defender Toby Alderferild, Tottenham Hotspur, scored a goal by mistake against his team (60), while Tottenham's players were unable to reduce the difference in the remaining time of the match.
