Würzburg / Magdeburg (dpa) - Germany's swimmers around world champion Florian Wellbrock have shown hopeful results for the Olympic year in competitions at various federal bases.

Wellbrock convinced at the weekend in Magdeburg with 3: 47.36 minutes over 400 meters freestyle and in 14: 58.64 over 1500 meters freestyle.

Sarah Köhler hit the long freestyle course after 16: 03.43 minutes.

Both have already set the standard for the Tokyo Olympics.

The largest starting field was in Würzburg, where top performances were also offered.

The only 20-year-old Lucas Matzerath from Frankfurt remained under the one-minute mark for the first time in 59.75 seconds over 100 meters chest, thereby also undercutting the Olympic norm.

But there is no ticket for him because there is currently no qualification period.

But the performance is encouraging for April.

According to the association, this is where the next qualification period will “probably” be.

Due to Corona, changed norm criteria for Tokyo 2021 have been announced.

Ole Braunschweig also stayed below the norm over the 100 meter back in 53.66 seconds.

“These are strong signs.

This proves that we manage to keep the right focus even in these difficult times, ”said national coach Hannes Vitense.

"And many others have shown with their performances here that they are on the right track with regard to the Olympics."
