Record number of infections in South Korea

In South Korea, 1,097 new corona

infections have been

detected in the past 24 hours.

Never before has the daily number been so high in the country.

Part of the new infections is due to a virus outbreak in a prison in the capital Seoul in which 185 people were infected.

It is the fifth day that there are more than 1,000 infections per day.

Due to the recent outbreaks of infection in the country, it is feared that there are too few hospital beds.

The country set an example internationally thanks to an aggressive testing policy at the beginning of the pandemic.

While other countries went into lockdown, South Korea managed to keep the number of infections in check.

In total, in South Korea (more than 51 million inhabitants) COVID-19 has been detected in nearly 50,000 people so far.

647 people have died from the effects of the virus.
