The fire started at 02.40 on Sunday night.

As there are gas cylinders, including oxygen, LPG and acetylene gas in the burning building, it was decided to block off an area of 300 meters around the garage.

The roads into Gnesta, roads 57 and 224 are also closed to traffic.

Approximately 50 people living in 18 properties have been evacuated within the cordoned off area.

- It is an area with villas and the fire is in a garage.

Right now we have cordoned off an area 300 meters around the fire site because there are gas cylinders in the fire and risk of explosion, says Lennart Meijer, external manager at Södertörn's fire protection association.

At 09.00 it is still burning on the site, but it is controlled and there is no risk of it spreading.

Works with water cannons and drones

Because there is a risk of explosion, they work passively on site.

- We do not go to the fire site but have water cannons and must also have drones that guard the site.

The building has collapsed but the fire has not spread further, says Lennart Meijer.

No suspicion of crime

There is still no forecast for how long you may have to work with the extinguishing and the rescue service expects to remain at the site for the next 24 hours.

- If we can neutralize the gas cylinders, we can release the barriers earlier, we are working to solve the problem.

According to the police, no person was injured during the incident and there is no suspicion of crime.

At the Dance School in Gnesta, there are staff who can receive the evacuees.

- Several of the evacuees have gone home to acquaintances because the roadblocks are delayed during the day, Södertälje municipality has also opened a school where the evacuees can go, says Ola Österling press secretary at the Police in Stockholm.
