Schwerin (dpa) - Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) calls for a nationwide quarantine regulation for travel to risk areas within Germany.

"I would have liked to regulate this nationwide, but so far there have never been majorities," she said in an interview with RTL and ntv.

"Since the beginning of the pandemic, I have been promoting the fact that we have clear rules on how we regulate mobility."

To protect against an even faster spread of the corona virus, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania tightened the reins on Friday: travelers returning from high-risk areas in Germany have to be quarantined. The only exceptions are people who have visited immediate family members. As with trips abroad, all other returnees must be in isolation for up to ten days, which can only be shortened to five days with two negative tests. According to Schwesig, regions with more than 200 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within 7 days are considered high-risk areas.
