Leverkusen (dpa) - World footballer Robert Lewandowski shot FC Bayern Munich in the last second to lead the table over Christmas.

The 32-year-old scored twice (43rd and 90th + 3) in a 2-1 (1: 1) league hit against previous leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

In 2019, RB Leipzig had secured the unofficial Christmas championship, the year before Borussia Dortmund.

In the end, however, Bayern always triumphed.

Leverkusen, which have never been German champions, turned out to be an equal opponent for a long time on Saturday.

Patrik Schick (14th) put Bayer in the lead after a clever corner kick trick with a remarkable volley decrease and ensured that the Munich team fell behind for the seventh time in a row for the first time in their Bundesliga history.

Impressive: They scored for the seventh time anyway - thanks to Lewandowski.

Another positive news for the record champions was the 20-minute comeback of national player Joshua Kimmich after a six-week injury break due to an operation on the external meniscus.

On the other hand, Leroy Sané was puzzled.

The 24-year-old, who had also played for Bayer for three years as a youth, sat on the bench, came in the 32nd minute for the injured Kingsley Coman and had to go down 35 minutes later for the 17-year-old Jamal Musiala.

The national player crept into the stands with his head bowed, visibly frustrated.

Of all things, the Rhenish rival 1. FC Köln gave Bayer a steep assist at noon.

Because of the surprising 0-0 of the FC in Leipzig it was clear that Leverkusen would be enough to stay ahead of the table.

However, the hosts did not speculate to the point, they started quite actively and did not leave the ball and initiative to Bayern as they did in the DFB Cup final in July (2-4).

The lead fell according to a familiar pattern.

As in the previous week in the 4: 1 against Hoffenheim, Nadiem Amiri and Leon Bailey took the corner briefly.

This time, the strong Amiri kept the ball, turned towards the goal and Schick's cross slammed into the goal from 14 meters in a technically demanding manner.

Bayern slowly became more dominant.

And the supposed 2-0 by Schick did not count.

After the 24-year-old's initially successful shot on goal and viewing the TV images, referee Felix Zwayer did not recognize the goal because of a narrow offside position.

It took until the 43rd minute before a Bayern shot went on goal - and it was right there.

After a cross from Thomas Müller, Bayer goalkeepers Lukas Hradecky and Jonathan Tah misjudged each other.

Lewandowski calmly headed the ball from six meters.

After the change, Bayern started very well, but Leverkusen caught up quickly and a remarkable game developed that could have turned out to either side at any time.

Munich's Serge Gnabry had a huge chance, whose shot from an acute angle Hradecky parried strongly with his fingertips (67th).

Then came the world footballer again.
