Düsseldorf / Dortmund (dpa / lnw) - At the two statutory health insurance associations in North Rhine-Westphalia, more than 20,000 doctors and medical helpers have now agreed to take part in the upcoming corona vaccinations.

A total of around 2,200 medical helpers have registered via the volunteer portal of the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians and the North Rhine Medical Association.

A survey also showed that 3400 practices in the Rhineland are ready to provide medical staff for vaccinations, said KVNO spokesman Christopher Schneider.

In addition, there would be around 2,600 medical specialists.

The Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians Westphalia-Lippe (KVWL) has so far recorded 12,000 registrations by doctors and medical specialists, said KVWL spokeswoman Heike Achtermann when asked by the dpa.

Among them are about 6000 doctors.

With the planned mass vaccinations, the cities and districts take care of the organization and logistics of the vaccination centers.

The statutory health insurance associations are responsible for the medical staff, scheduling appointments and carrying out vaccinations with the help of mobile teams and in the centers.

The vaccinations are due to start on December 27th, initially by mobile teams in old people's and care facilities.
