The contribution rate of improved varieties to the increase in grain production and the development of animal husbandry reached 45% and 40%, respectively, providing key support for the continuous bumper harvest of my country’s grain and the stable production and supply of important agricultural products.

  At present, my country's seed industry has entered a new stage of development driven by independent innovation.

In the past ten years, 39,000 crop varieties have been approved and registered nationwide, and the number of applications for new plant variety protection has ranked first in the world for four consecutive years. High-yield models of rice, wheat, corn, and soybeans have continuously emerged, and the level of quality has been continuously improved. New varieties of water-saving, disease-resistant wheat, suitable for machine-harvesting corn; 93 new animal and poultry varieties approved, accounting for 56% of all approved varieties. The production performance of improved varieties has been significantly improved. Among them, self-cultivation of laying hens and white feather ducks , The production performance has reached the international advanced level.

  Zhang Taolin, deputy minister of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, stated that it is necessary to maintain the competitiveness of dominant varieties such as rice and wheat, reduce the gap between varieties such as corn and soybeans and the international advanced level, and speed up the breeding of a few dependent varieties.

Strive to basically establish a national seed industry innovation system with enterprises as the main body, basic public welfare research as the support, and integration of production, education, research and application by 2025, cultivate a number of major varieties with independent intellectual property rights, and conquer a number of breakthrough key core technologies. Crop and livestock breeding innovation capabilities are close to or reach the international first-class level.
