The Swedish Public Health Agency has long rejected the use of oral protection because there is insufficient scientific evidence to reduce the spread of infection, and has said that other measures are much more effective.

But on Friday, the authority issued a new recommendation on mouth protection in public transport during certain times, which will take effect on 7 January.

- We have not changed.

We have always said that if you can not maintain public transport where there is no congestion, it is much better with mouth guards, says Anders Tegnell.

- But it must absolutely not make us let go of any of the measures that are at the bottom.
