Schwerin (dpa / mv) - Regardless of the complaints from companies about what they consider to be too harsh interventions and insufficient compensation payments, the Schwerin Chamber of Commerce and Industry is largely satisfied with the actions of the state government in the Corona crisis.

“Overall, state politics did a good job.

In particular, the unbureaucratic and quick donations for affected companies in connection with labor market policy measures have so far contributed to maintaining economic structures, ”said Chamber Chief Executive Siegbert Eisenach on Friday.

In a first balance sheet of the year marked by the corona pandemic, Eisenach noted high sales losses, especially for the hotel and catering industry.

A number of companies are looking into an uncertain future.

The stationary retail trade is struggling with a strong online trade, low customer footfall and declines in sales, which have been intensified again by the current closure of the stores during the Christmas business.

But there is also great stability in the labor market in economic sectors such as logistics, the food industry and construction.

However, the general economic slump has left its mark.

"With a value of 77.9 points in May, the strongest slump in the 30-year history of the IHK economic analysis was registered," the statement said.

Especially at the beginning of the closings in spring, the indicators on the situation and outlook were bleak, but brightened again in September.

More recent data were not available.

Eisenach expects the situation on the labor market to remain tense in 2021.

The construction and food industry still required personnel.

"In the maritime economy, however, the outlook seems to be significantly worse," said Eisenach in view of the acute financial problems of the MV shipyards in Wismar, Rostock and Stralsund.
