Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - In the fight against the scam with false police officers, according to a newspaper report, a blow against members of criminal Arab family clans was successful.

A swamp had been drained, quoted the "Rheinische Post" (Saturday edition) a senior criminal director of the State Criminal Police Office in North Rhine-Westphalia.

At the beginning of December, a call center was excavated in Izmir, Turkey, from where fraudsters called German seniors.

The call center was run by members of a Lebanese clan whose members came from North Rhine-Westphalia.

According to the newspaper, 48 objects were searched and 32 arrests were made.

1.5 million euros and 200,000 dollars in cash were secured in the action in Turkey, as well as five kilograms of gold.

High-quality vehicles were confiscated and 87 properties were confiscated.

The total amount is 105 million euros.

The masterminds are clan members who had previously been expelled from Germany for criminal offenses.

It is a trick of the fraudsters to use pretexts to get their victims to hand over money and valuables to a stranger, who then also pretends to be a police officer.

It is alleged, for example, that money and valuables at home or at the bank are no longer safe or should be examined by the police for traces.

Since the searches in the call center there have been "virtually no such calls" in Germany, said an LKA spokesman for the RP.
